English
Someone once described language as the garment of thought. This is very true and teachers in this faculty realise that we can do far more than help young people to read and write; speaking, listening and, most of all, thinking are vital skills for successfully living in the 21st century.
At an academic level, we had one of the country’s most improved Key Stage 3 results in 2005. We are concerned that Key Stage 4 results have not reached target levels and, in order to offer a more relevant curriculum at this stage, we have successfully bid to trial the new Edexcel pilot GCSE double award English course which is currently being followed by Y10 classes.
The faculty regularly takes part in the Salford Book Awards, the Newspaper Project and, this year for the first time joined forces with I.C.T. to spearhead a summer school for gifted and talented pupils. We also produce our own digital magazine of pupils’ work which can be accessed from this site.
The faculty consists of seven rooms, half of which are furnished with video projector and computers. The seven full time staff are augmented by gifted mentors, trainee teachers and teaching assistants.
