Salford South SSP World Cup competition
The interest in the World Cup taking place in Germany provided the ideal opportunity for the first event organised by Salford South School Sports Partnership.
Seven teams from schools in the Wentworth Family of Schools took part in a 6-a-side girls football competition at Monton Green Primary School. Each team represented a country and were eagerly cheered on by team-mates and other countries.
The competition was close with all teams separated by only 4 points. Brazil and Spain finished level but Brazil, represented by St Andrew’s, won on goal difference from Spain (Monton Green). Will this be repeated in the final itself?
The matches were organised and refereed by Year 9 pupils from Wentworth High School, who received praise for their organisation and maturity from Miss Capstick, the PE Co-ordinator from Monton Green. They will now go on to complete their FA Junior Football Organisers course to give them a recognised qualification.
The day was enjoyable for all, best summed up by the girls from Lewis Street: “Miss, can we go again tomorrow? That was the best day of our lives!”
