Our visit to the Cornerhouse Cinema

Just before the end of the Summer term a group of year 9 students were invited to the Cornerhouse Cinema in Manchester.  Along with other Salford Schools we were given the chance to watch the French docu-film "Être et Avoir”.  We shared a coach with Hope High School and arrived in Manchester at about 10.00 am.

cornerThe film showed us life in a primary school during a whole year. The school is in an area not far from Clermont Ferrand which is Salford's twin town.

Because it is in such a small village, the school has to teach pupils of many different ages, all in one room. The teacher said that it is not an easy job but it is one that he loves.

I understood roughly half of what was being said but the lecturer from the University said this was absolutely fine. It didn't matter even if we did have to look at the subtitles because it was a film made for real French people.

It wasn't an easy task watching a long film in French but it was a rewarding one. All in all I would say that I learned a lot in a very short time
