Wentworth High School wins
the SLD/PD Cricket title on their first attempt
The annual SLD & PD Greater Manchester Schools Cricket Festival designed for young people with Severe Learning Difficulties and Physical Disabilities proved to be a huge success on Tuesday 12th June 2007.
The tournament, held at the Stockport Georgians CC in Woodsmoor, Stockport was attended by eleven schools based in the Greater Manchester area, an increase on the eight schools that entered last year.
Standard cricket rules were adapted to make the sport inclusive, resulting in a more simplified, fun game that made sure everyone could take part.
All the teams took advantage of the generous boundaries with scores of 230+ regularly achieved.
However it was the biggest hitters Wentworth High School from Salford who prevailed over the gallant New Bridge School from Oldham in the final. Wentworth deserved winners based on their overall performance during the day averaging 272 runs per game*.
It was a fitting end to a competition, which had exciting games and plenty of determined and eager young people. There were no shortage of helpers and volunteers eager to make the festival run smoothly, as members of the Georgians club helped out with teas, scoring and umpiring.
