Halle Impresarios

On Tuesday 24th June seventeen Business Studies students accompanied by Mr Kennedy and Mrs Sharman set off for Lancashire County Cricket Club.  Our only brief was that the work we were going to be engaged in was to do with Business Finance.

When we arrived we were split into five teams by the two Halle representatives, to work on a project involving arranging a concert to take place at the Bridgewater Hall on 14th February 2010.  Each team was given a booklet containing a repertoire list, lists of agents, publishing houses, orchestral layouts and seating plans.  We were also given complex planning sheets on which we were to plan our expenditure and income according to the category of concert we were to present.

My team was made up of myself, Vanessa Harris and Adam Robinson.  We called our team “The Triplets”, even though we look nothing like each other!  We split the work load with me doing concert form 1, Vanessa doing form 2 and Adam doing form 3.  We worked for about 2 hours before our first break.

Once back at work, we produced our initial budgets so that they could be assessed by Steve Pickett, Stuart Robinson and Fiona McLeoud from the Halle, and Penelope Hart from the Business Education Partnership.  After lunch there were mystery cards to take account of before our final budget could be produced and we could get to work on our presentation.

Each group picked a number which decided the order in which our presentations were to be given.  We were last, which was good because we had longer to prepare.  We presented our work and the judges watched and marked us.  They then went away and we had to complete our evaluation forms.  After some time the judges reappeared to announce the winner. It was us and we were rewarded by prizes and chocolate, as well as a certificate.
