Wentworth Welcomes New Staff

Mr Yates joins from Tottington High School in Bury where he has spent the last six years teaching Music and ICT. Prior to teaching Mr.Yates spent a number of years working in the IT industry. He is a Brass specialist and was a member of the winning band at the National Brass Band Championships at the Royal Albert Hall in 2002. During his time at Tottington, he directed the school choir and orchestra, taking part in Music tours of Belgium, Italy, the Netherlands and France. Earlier this year he was the Musical Director for the School Production of “Bugsy Malone”. Mr Yates is looking forward to hearing what the students of Wentworth can do and is eager to get choirs, bands and other ensembles up and running.
Mr Yates is also a keen Mountain Biker and took part in the Mountain Mayhem 24 Hour Race in 2005 and 2006. This year, he took part in the Manchester to Blackpool bike ride for charity. He also enjoys Snowboarding and gets to the Chill Factor whenever he can.
Ms Gouda has actually been at the school since March working in the Modern Foreign Languages Faculty. She is currently replacing Ms Beaud who is on maternity leave. Ms Gouda has a cat called Dave and she also tried to start an ant farm recently but this venture proved unsuccessful. Ms Gouda loves skiing more than most other things.
With a degree in Sports Studies and a background in sports coaching, a natural and exciting progression for Ms O’Farrell was to get into teaching. She chose the Graduate Trainee Programme (GTP) route which is a yearlong school based training route. “I was lucky enough to experience my second placement at Wentworth in January which then gave me the knowledge and experience to gain a permanent position. I am looking forward to the school year ahead and to applying my knowledge, enthusiasm and passion into making my PE lessons enjoyable and successful for all students.”
Mr Hillgren deserves the opportunity to introduce himself too:
Hej. My name is Mr Hillgren and I am originally from Stockholm, Sweden. I started teaching at Wentworth in May 2006. I have been teaching quite a few subjects at Wentworth already, such as Art, English, Literacy and PHSE. This year I have been given the fantastic opportunity to carry on teaching Art and also in Food Technology, which is another subject close to my heart. I come from a catering and hospitality background, which I worked in for nearly 15 years before becoming a teacher, and which has also taken me around the world, working in such places as Australia, Denmark and Norway.
Ms Breen also completed the GTP here at Wentworth High School and has now secured a permanent post. She is quoted as saying, “I look forward to my future as an English teacher at one of the most flourishing schools in Salford”.
Finally, Wentworth High School is pleased to welcome onto the staff Gillian Sparling our new “Gifted and Talented” Mentor, James Munsch who will be working as a mentor in the Learning Support Unit and Laura Borsby, the English Intervention Teaching Assistant. Natalie Ward, Jayne Weibrecht, Sarah Crozier, Rachael Lyons and Chloe Nevitt join the team as Learning Support Assistants. We hope that they all enjoy a happy and fulfilling career at Wentworth.
