mini

On Friday 27th June, a group of our dedicated young sports volunteers took part in the prestigious Greater Manchester Mini Games.

The ethos of the Mini Games is to have fun while competing against schools from other boroughs in a great relaxed atmosphere. This year Salford was host to the games and Wentworth High School was the central site with other activities at Eccles College, Chatsworth/Oakwood High School and Monton Sports Club. The boroughs taking part were Salford, Wigan, Bury, Bolton and Rochdale.  Members of year ten set up practices to warm up the teams before they took part in the league they had organised.

miniThey sorted out the order of play, kept the scores, timed the games and refereed. What made the event special was that they were working in a highly competitive environment and had to officiate very sensitively to accommodate the various levels of ability. They also had to ensure that the games were both fair and enjoyable for everyone involved. This group had already refined their skills by organising Mr Warne's year eight lunchtime competition during the two weeks leading up to the Mini games. Even so they were amazed by the intensity of the competition.

The group who volunteered for the rugby competition had all completed the Junior Rugby League Organiser course with the Salford Reds Education Group.  mini

>They were able to work with the Reds to run a very successful and enjoyable tournament, demonstrating their skills as leaders and officials, and gaining marks for their GCSE PE coursework.

All the various teachers in charge of the teams said how well the Wentworth students conducted themselves and were impressed by the way they worked with the competitors.
