Summer School 2007

At the end of July, 2007, rather than
playing or lazing in bed, a group of pupils decided they would join in the making of CSI Wentworth. This was yet another successful Summer School for Gifted and Talented pupils.
This year the focus was on Science and ICT, although there are of course a multitude of cross-curricular links in the activities the pupils took part in. Imagine their surprise when on the first day they were all issued with their very own crime scene suits. Have a look at the photos to see how they used them through the week.
The activities provided allowed the pupils to thoroughly investigate fingerprinting, evidence collection at crime scenes, blood spatter patterns, shoe and boot prints and DNA evidence. They tried out different methods of collecting fingerprints from a range of materials. Some of them even took ear prints!
All this practice led to an investigation of a crime scene and analysis of the evidence obtained to solve the crime and a competition to see which group could reach the correct conclusions. There were prizes and certificates throughout the week.
Well done to all who participated.
