Each teacher has their own well appointed classroom with an interactive whiteboard and access to lots of on line learning materials, Smart Board and other similar resources. There is also a computer suite with ten up to date computers available on a booking system.
French is taught to all Year 7 pupils using Expo. In Year 8 all pupils take a second language, this year some do Spanish, others German. Pupils are taught in ability groups in all years. For Spanish, the course book is Listos, for German we use Echo. All these resources are produced by Heinemann Education.
Languages are not compulsory at KS4. However, in Year 11 there are 3 language groups and in Year 10 there are 4 language groups. About a third of the year group opt for a language, consequently these groups tend to be small but often quite mixed in ability. We currently offer French or/and Spanish GCSE, this is the Edexcel syllabus which includes coursework which is worth 25%.
For pupils wishing to use ICT at home as well as school, we have access to Linguascope.com (username: joseph password: conrad ) which provides resources for all languages. Languages on line is an excellent free site available on the internet and is useful for all pupils whatever the ability. |
