News from Year 7
A term has now passed and year 7 pupils have settled well at Wentworth. Everyone now knows their way around, their timetables and their homework nights! At assembly times, it is a joy to see the year group, all wearing full school uniform and looking smart and ready to start the school day.
Year 7 is the foundation year for pupils at Wentworth. It forms the basis for their future successes. If they know how to behave, how to work and how to do their best in year 7, they can carry this throughout their school career and leave Wentworth with the best results they can achieve. Seeing year 7 pupils in lessons and around the school I am sure that virtually every one of them will prove capable of achieving this long term aim.

News from Year 8
I would like to take this opportunity to say well done to the following pupils Katie Annette, Lucy Anns, Beth Blay, Jamie Buckley, Jenna Cartwright, Charlotte Harrison, Matthew Hayes, Jasmine Macauley, Adam Power, Christopher Reid, Kerrie Rogers Bethany Ross, Etemad Saif, Michael Wong, Niall Wright, and Lena Zain who are progressing as expected or better in all of their subjects. Praise also goes out to Chloe Cleary, Charlotte Harrison and Richard Lowe who are progressing better than expected in six or more subjects. To all of these pupils this is a great achievement and should be proud of your efforts well done. More positive news is that the standard of uniform is much better this year with the vast majority of the year in full uniform.

News from Year 9
The vast majority of pupils in Year 9 continued to exhibit really high standards in many different areas last half term. The ongoing support of parents and carers is the key to maintaining and in some cases raising standards, particularly important this year. Year 9 Form Tutors are working with some pupils in their forms at the moment to support them and help them to raise their attainment in English, Maths and Science. The same kind of support will be offered to all the pupils during their lesson time, along with optional Booster classes. Mock SATs will take place in the week beginning March 6th and the actual SATs in the week beginning May 1st. Despite the fact that generally standards are high, we do have some concerns about standards where equipment, including having a suitable bag, is concerned. It is clear that pupils who come without pens and other ‘basics’ are not in an appropriate frame of mind to work which has a direct impact on lessons. On a much more positive note, some pupils have worked really hard to improve both their personal attendance and also their punctuality record – very well done to them and others who have continued to achieve the very highest of standards in both areas.
The Year 9 Team of Staff would like to thank the pupils and their parents for their work and efforts so far. These will be of even more importance during this next term, culminating with decisions about Options for next year.

News from Year 10
It has been a busy and successful term for Year 10’s. The pupils are now well into their G.C.S.E courses and are making good progress. This is reflected in the results of the Science Modular Tests with the majority achieving very good marks. It is important that the pupils realise these marks go towards their final grades and treat each Module Test seriously. The next test is on Wednesday 8th March.
A group of Year 10`s are involved in a Business Enterprise venture with Salford Reds. This is working successfully but they would appreciate support by people buying their merchandise.
The Year has also continued to be involved successfully in sport, with a G.C.S.E. P.E. group coaching, organising and officiating a Tag Rugby Tournament for Year 6’s from local primary schools.
The year is well turned out and attendance is good. I have reason to be proud of them and feel confident for the future.

News from Year 11
Nathaniel Tetteh (11W) wishes to thank everyone who is supporting his bid to collect unwanted school equipment to send back to his old school in Ghana. His school and his friends believe he is very lucky to be in school in England, and he wishes to share this luck and pride by helping them.
The countdown is now beginning for year 11 pupils. They are in the last stages of completing their coursework and Mock examinations, in the week beginning 3rd April, are looming.
A successful ‘Focus Day’ was held on Friday 10th February 2006, where all parents were given time to discuss target grades, current grades and available strategies to enable all pupils to achieve their potential.
Pupils in the ‘100 club’ continue to be monitored and supported by their tutors, giving them every opportunity to leave Wentworth with the best results they can achieve.
We all wish year 11 pupils luck in this increasingly stressful time.
