We were all delighted with the number of year 9 pupils who regularly attended the S.A.T booster classes this year. The numbers were always around the 20 mark and were often nearer 30. This is more than in any previous year. As well as these students, who were attending after-school voluntary sessions to try and improve their level 4/5 estimated grades to 5/6, we had a small selection of students who are hoping for level 8 S.A.T results who came back to work with Mrs Gordon. Congratulations and good luck to all of those year 9 pupils. I am sure you will all do well. I would also like to take the opportunity to thank all of the staff who participated in this scheme, primarily Mrs Gordon, Mrs McLaughlin and Miss Collier.
Twenty-eight year 11 students then spent 3 days during the Easter break in school and those of us who were here to help were suitably impressed. Several others attended a revision day over the half term break.
On Wednesday 17th May, eighteen year 9 students from our Gifted and Talented cohort spent the day out of school at Ambrose Barlow R.C High School, participating in the “Learn by Design: Numeracy in Sport” project. Mr Brophy, who accompanied the students, was keen to comment on their exceptional behaviour. He also mentioned that they were so clever that the Maths was too easy for them.
Congratulations to:-
Matthew Burrows, Emma Coney, Lauren Doyle, Sabira Silcock, Joe Fenn, Nathan Gill, Connor Hutton, Sean Jones, Patricia Lewis, Amy Morrissy, Scott Munro, Alison Westcott, Hannah Kelly, Makbul Ali, Amy Siu, James Cook, Joanne Hingley and Rebecca Vanden.
I have recently offered our present year 10 students the opportunity to study Statistics after school in order to gain an extra G.C.S.E. and the first arranged lesson was attended by at least 20 students. As with the other examples mentioned above, the motivation and interest of so many of our pupils is a cause for great optimism. I look forward to working with these students during the next 12 months.
