Latest News from Music

The Wentworth High School Music department is currently involved in a fantastic new project initiated by a local company called 'GMMAZ' (Greater Manchester Music Action Zone).

This project, 'Global Beats', has given a group of pupils the opportunity of learning about and performing Brazilian and Indian rhythms on a variety of different instruments. The tuition is provided by 2 percussion experts, Leon and Ian, whose expertise has enabled all of the pupils to perform some fairly complex rhythms on instruments not normally used in the classroom.

The pupils have just completed the Brazilian project and have now moved onto learning the more complex Bhangra 'Chaal' rhythms and the photographs show one of the recent sessions. Once this project is finished in June, we are hoping to meet up with the other 2 schools for a final performance of all the work. The pupils have worked extremely hard and having overheard a 'Can't do this' several times with the Bhangra rhythms, all of them have successfully overcome this hurdle to produce some excellent performances.  Well done to them all!
