Out of Hours Learning has continued using Eccles College sports facilities.
Pupils from Clarendon Road, Monton Green, St Andrew’s and Westwood Park joined Wentworth pupils in activities led by coaches from local clubs. Dean’s FC coach of the Year Chris Grimshaw led the football with Ms Garbutt, Sam Toole and Lucy McLaughlin leading the girls group. Sam and Lucy have gained impressive marks for their GCSE course.
The school has been successful in its application to lead the Salford South School Sport Partnership in September 2006. As we go to press interviews for the new post as Partnership Development Manager (PDM) are planned, with the successful candidate joining the school in April. The PDM will be leading a 56 school partnership which will aim to improve pupils’ education, by assuring each pupil can access 2 hours a week high quality PE and school sport.

Under the new format based on the Champions’ League, only the year 9 team progressed to the knockout stages, where the play Albion HS.
Wentworth dominated the Salford boys’ championships with Dario Tehrani beating James Reilly in the final. Nathaniel Tetteh reached the semi-finals.
The year 9 team won the Division 2 league with Liam Saphier top points scorer with 26.
The year 11 had a disappointing season and only won one match in Division 2. Adam Vaughan was top scorer with 24 points.
Training is well under way for the year 10, 8 and 7 teams which begin their programme after half term.
Another successful season draws to a close at half term. All three teams, 11, 10 and 9, have reached their respective cup finals. The year 9 team is undefeated and has won the league title. The year 11 team is also undefeated and have two matches left to secure the title. The year 10 team needs to win their last league match to secure runners-up spot.
A young ‘A’ team has struggled this season, finishing in 4th place in the league and begin cup semi-finalists. The ‘C’ team comprising of year 7s, won their league.
The ‘B’ team won the B team Jamboree and were runners-up in the cup plate competition.
Niall Wright, Charlie Winnick, Ben Chapman , Ross Markey and Billy Haslam all made it through to the Salford Under 13 District final consisting of four training sessions.
Wright, Winnick and Chapman were selected for the final squad of 14 players.
Jon Teesdale retained the Eccles 50m freestyle title with Olivia Salt winning the girls’ title. |
