From September, the school will be the host of a new link between 7 other high schools and 49 primary and special schools to improve PE, school and community sport. The main aim of this Partnership will be to improve the quality and amount of PE and sport pupils take part in, during lessons, lunchtimes, after school and away from school.
The health of children and young people continues to be in the news. We will work with schools to give everyone the skills and confidence to take part in an active and healthy life during their time at school and understand why it is important to carry this on once they leave.
New activities to get children interested in physical activity will be introduced and we will make links with local clubs and community groups to encourage more people to join them. Children will be given the chance to become young leaders and organise and deliver activities for other pupils.
This will expand on the work that has been carried out in the last few years, as the school has been part of similar groups. Howard Shore has been appointed as the Partnership Development Manager and has been working in the school since Easter on this exciting new venture. The following report from Ms Bull, the School Sports Co-ordinator, is an example of the sort of activities that pupils in all the schools will be involved in. A launch event will be held in September, when we hope some sporting stars will be visiting the school.

School Sports Co-ordinator’s report
Our continuing leadership work with Salford Reds has taken year 10 pupils into St Andrew’s, Lewis Street and Westwood Park to deliver 5 weeks of rugby league coaching led by the Reds coaching staff. It has been great to see our students return to school with increased confidence and enthusiasm. As a result the pupils were able to play a game at half time at the Willows with Wentworth students officiating. It was good to see so many parents and other students supporting. Sixteen students successfully completed the Junior Rugby League Organiser course.
St Andrew’s will be playing Tag rugby in the Salford North Partnership competition on 16th June. Wentworth Junior Rugby League Organisers have been booked to lead and manage teams, referee, run the line and photograph the event.
The Applied GCSE group, and 22 other students in year 10, are working towards their Junior Sport Leader Award. Most of the applied GCSE group have completed the practical aspect of the course and lunchtimes have been busy with the many competitions and dance activities they have organised. This has made a big difference to the amount of intra-school activity we can offer and makes an excellent contribution to the activity levels of a considerable number of other students.
On 26th May year 9 students are booked to attend the Norwich Union Officials course which was so successful last year. Emma Deakin from Salford Sports Development will deliver the course to 20 pupils. The successful candidates will visit our Family of Schools and lead an afternoon of athletics for year 3 and 4 pupils in each school. They are also booked in for sports days for our primary schools. This is down to the excellent work the current year 10 students put in last year.
Wentworth students will be developing further leadership skills in football in two separate football tournaments organised to celebrate the World Cup. In one they will work in partnership with Salford City Academy for year 4 pupils and in the other year 5 and 6 girls will take part in a football competition at Wentworth on Tuesday 20th June.

Salford Junior Sports Council
Wentworth High School was represented at Salford Junior Sports Council by Alison Westcott and Matthew Burrows, who were asked to attend because of their commitment to sport and their reliability. Ms Bull is pleased to report that she could have asked a number of other pupils who demonstrate the same qualities.
The intention is that this council will represent the views and opinions of young people on the subject of sport, healthy lifestyles and community participation.
If you have any opinions, please speak to Alison or Matthew so that they can pass on your concerns and ideas.
