Curriculum

Here at Wentworth High School, we provide 2 hours of inclusive, quality P.E lessons to all pupils in our care.
At Key Stage 3, pupils learn to compose, develop and refine a number of skills and techniques across a range of team games and individual activities.
At Key Stage 4, pupils continue with compulsory P.E lessons choosing to specialize in the activities they enjoy and have developed a flair for. All pupils change fully into P.E kit for every lesson and take on alternative roles as officials, organisers or coaches if unable to physically take part for medical reasons.
Practical activities covered at Wentworth High include football, netball, basketball, gymnastics, dance, trampolining, rugby, table tennis, badminton, HRF (Health Related Fitness), dodgeball, cricket, rounders, softball, short tennis, volleyball and athletics
. All pupils at Key Stage 4 are currently undertaking the BTEC First Sport course.

Extra Curricular Clubs

We offer a range of extra-curricular clubs on a rotational basis throughout the year and compete in a number of Salford School Leagues in sports such as netball, football, rugby, basketball and badminton. Pupils can find out which clubs are running and when by checking the P.E notice boards.

Handball Development Opportunities for Wentworth Pupils

handball

Handball is an Olympic sport which is a combination of basketball, soccer and netball.
It is played indoors on a court about the size of two basketball courts. At the each end of the court is a net which is 9 feet wide by 6 1/2 feet high.
The object of the game is simply to score more goals than the other team.

Funding has recently become available to support school to club pathways in handball in our area and Wentworth is one of three schools lucky enough to be a part of the development project.

Every Wednesday afternoon, coaches from Salford Handball Club are coming into Wentworth to deliver an extra-curricular club to Key Stage 3 boys and girls. The club is aiming to develop pupils’ knowledge, understanding and practical skills within the game which will hopefully develop a new found enthusiasm for the sport.

Once the sport has become established in school we are hoping to encourage the transition of these pupils into Salford Handball clubs ‘Satellite club’ which will be based at one of our local schools.

In addition to this, we will be visited by some GB players who will talk to our pupils about their involvement in the game and run an intra school tournament where medals will be presented.

This is a fantastic opportunity for our Key Stage 3 pupils and we look forward to seeing the future stars of handball emerging from Wentworth High School!
