Drama Department

The Expressive Arts faculty comprises of Art and Design, Music and Drama. Pupils are taught once per week at key stage 3. At key stage 4 pupils can choose any of these three courses as an optional GCSE which is then taught three times a week.

Additionally, after school and dinnertime clubs run to offer pupils additional time in these subjects. Pupils achievements are celebrated with exhibitions, performances and productions which take place throughout the year.

The physical Drama department is made up of:
One large space, roughly 20 metres x 25 metres; it is equipped with a full lighting rig and removable sound system. Additionally there is also one classroom space and a dedicated drama office for staff.

The staffing for the drama department consists of:
One full time teacher of drama – the main teaching focus being key stage 4 GCSE drama.

Timetabling for drama:
At key stage three only year 9 are taught drama once per week ( 50 minute lesson). A key stage four years 10 and 11 are taught drama three lessons per week (3 x 50 minute lessons). In years 10 and 11 drama is only taught to pupils who chose this as one of their GCSE options
Intake at GCSE is roughly 60 year 10 pupils and 60 year 11 pupils.

Drama  courses:
The GCSE drama course is run by EDEXCEL and allows flexibility in its delivery allowing the teacher to structure the course in accordance. Spatial awareness, voice projection, body language, directing, writing / devising plays and performing are examples of possible educational diversity. Extra curricular drama forms a portion of the EDEXCEL course

Drama is a popular course and pupils often carry on their study into post 16 education.
